Troops reach to Palampiddi Junction - Vavuniya

Security forces personnel engaged in counter terrorist offensives to liberate Wanni have reached to the Palampiddi junction this afternoon, May 17. According to an initial report received from Vavuniya warfront said that troops reached to Palampiddi junction without much resistance as the LTTE terrorists fled the area when the security forces advanced into LTTE dominated Palampiddi area.

LTTE pistol gang guns down a Sinhalese youth - Vavuniya

A Sinhalese youth who was shot by LTTE pistol man succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in Vavuniya hospital today, May 17.

The victim was identified as Robet Weerasekara (20) and he was riding a bicycle along the Thonikkal - Vavuniya road when the LTTE pistol man targeted him around 8.00 pm, police sources said.

Robet Weerasekara who received severe injuries was admitted to the Vavuniya hospital and later he succumbed to his injuries, police sources further said.

Pilleyan, the New CM of Eastern Province

President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed TMVP Leader Mr. Sivanesathurei Chandrakanth allias Pilleyan as the Chief Minister of the Eastern yesteday (16th May). The swearing-in-ceremony was held at the Presidential Secretariat in the evening. Mr.Chandakanth (Pilleyan) is the first Chief Minister appointed for the Eastern Provincial Council.
